Corpse Road from Chapel Stile

One of the loveliest and easiest routes in the Lakes is along the old corpse route from Chapel Stile to Grasmere. Some beautiful scenery and a wonderful paved path some of the way. Grey Crag and Alcock Tarn

A stunning morning walk yesterday from Grasmere, up to Grey Crag and Alcock Tarn. We were actually just going for a stroll up Far Easedale, but when we reached Grasmere, the clarity of the views took us higher – up to Grey Crag and Alcock Tarn. A while since we’d visited either. Compared to theContinue reading “Grey Crag and Alcock Tarn”

A Low-Level Walk from Grasmere

I’m writing this over a very stormy weekend, looking back to last Friday, when we walked from Grasmere on a terrific day of blue sky overhead, a cloud inversion over the mere, and astonishing colour and clarity. A cold morning, but one of those chilly Lakeland days, that makes every rock and bracken stalk standContinue reading “A Low-Level Walk from Grasmere”

Fight to Save Grasmere

I’m horrified at the Lowther Estates plans to commercialise quiet Grasmere with holiday boats. I’m in full support of the protests, and will keep you updated. Please sign the petition and register an objection. There’s a protest coming up by this beautiful stretch of water, so keep reading the blog and I’ll let you knowContinue reading “Fight to Save Grasmere”

On Helm Crag

Helm Crag near Grasmere is of modest height, but splendid proportions – a good craggy hill so impressive as you come up the road towards Dunmail Raise or gaze at it from the outskirts of the village. Its rocky summit is one of the best in the Lake District, much admired by Wainwright, with itsContinue reading “On Helm Crag”
